Kristin Balder-Froid, the head of strategic development at Berkeley Lab’s Strategic Partnerships Office, is the final winner of the ‘Meet Lawrence’ scavenger hunt.
In this photo, John Hundale Lawrence and Robert Tym work with a patient at Donner Laboratory, circa 1963. John Lawrence, known as the father of nuclear medicine, came to California from Harvard and Yale to join his brother, Ernest Orlando Lawrence, so that he could explore the medical uses of radioactive isotopes and subatomic particles from the newly invented cyclotron. In 1936, John joined the faculty of the University of California and headed the medical research laboratory that eventually became Donner Lab, the world’s first research laboratory devoted to nuclear medicine, diagnosis and treatment.
