The bronze bust of Ernest Orlando Lawrence sits in the hallway near the lobby of Building 50 at the Lab’s hill site. The artist Manette Loomis modeled the bust over several days, observing Lawrence at Berkeley’s Claremont Hotel where he lunched with her husband, the scientist Alfred Lee Loomis. Cast in plaster in San Francisco during the winter of 1946, the bust was later cast in bronze in New York before making its way back to Berkeley Lab.
